The seminar series alternates between student presentations and guest lecturers. Students are required to give “work-in-progress” presentations as part of their training to improve science communication and presentation skills, as well as to solicit feedback from fellow trainees and program mentors. Guest lecturers feature professors from other universities and industry professionals who provide trainees with role models, and exposure to broad and relevant technology and research developments, to industry insights and strategic priorities, and to human practices and the legal and ethical dimensions of synthetic biology. Students are required to read papers by guest lecturers before their visit, attend their seminar, and meet with the guest informally over lunch.
