THE UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA

ECOSCOPE Program Director

Dr. Steven Hallam is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology and Leopold Leadership Fellow. His lab specializes in the field of microbial ecological genomics and genetics with specific emphasis on the creation of computational tools for taxonomic and functional binning, population genome assembly, functional screening, and comparative community analysis. He is the co-founder of Koonkie, a cloud-based ecoinformatics services provider and Ekosense, an analytical services company that combines geochemical and genomic parameter information for field diagnostics and source tracking.

Dr. Kim Dill-McFarland (Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow, 2017-19) worked in undergraduate data science education with EDUCE, ECOSCOPE, and the Department of Microbiology & ImmunologyShe obtained her PhD in Microbiology at the U. of Wisconsin-Madison working with Dr. Garret Suen. She is now a Bioinformatics Research Consultant in Allergy and Infectious Disease at the U. of Washington.

Dr. Aria Hahn is a UBC Postdoctoral Fellow in Microbiology and Immunology in Dr. Steven Hallam’s lab. Her research focuses on using metagenome analysis, a method that involves simultaneously characterizing the DNA from millions of soil microbes, to study soil microbial communities from across the continent.

Dr. Jennifer Bonderoff is the ECOSCOPE Network Coordinator
